WINDOWS 10 is Microsoft’s computer operating system that is incredibly capable.

However, Express.co.uk is here to provide you with some useful tips that could make your PC run faster.

Windows 10 offers fans a swathe of system options that can be customized to optimize performance.

While some are relatively simple, others are slightly more complex

Combined, all of these tricks could make a noticeable change to your PC.

Adjust which applications start automatically

Windows 10 allows users to choose which applications will be launched when a PC is booting up.

Microsoft’s Task Manager app allows fans to customize the software that will be opened at such time.

Intense applications that are launched on startup can result in initial sluggish performance.

However, by heading to the Task Manager app and pressing the “startup” tab, the user will be given the option of choosing which programmes will launch when the PC is turned on.

Microsoft’s client even has a “startup impact” section that will tell users if a particular programme is having an adverse effect on initial performance.

In order to turn off programmes that are booted up at launch, users should right click them and press the duly-named “disable” button.

Change your power plan

Windows 10 allows users to choose a plan that manages how each PC distributes its power.

The three available are “balanced”, “power saver” and “high performance” with the former being the setting Microsoft recommends users choose.

PC owners that are using the “power saver” option are hindering performance in exchange for better power management.

While such a feature can be appealing for those using laptops and are far from an outlet, even desktops have such options.

Ensuring you are using your Windows 10 computer on either “balanced” or “high performance” modes will ensure much better performance is delivered.

In order to change the power plan being used, Windows 10 fans should head to the system’s Control Panel and head to the “system and security” tab.

From there you should press “power options”.

This will take you to a screen that will allow you to choose which plan your PC abides by.

Get rid of unnecessary system apps

Windows 10 PCs can arrive with a substantial amount of apps that are not helpful to most users.

This is especially present in the instance where some third-party manufacturers pre-install software on their products.

One of the easiest ways to do this is by using Windows Defender or scanning functionality offered by security programmes such as Norton and McAfee.

These will identify malware and other programmes that are draining PC performance.

A tool that can also have an adverse effect on performance is the “tips, tricks and suggestions” feature offered by Microsoft.

Essentially, this programme monitors behaviour and suggests contextual information to users.

In order to turn this off, users should head to settings > notifications and actions.

From there users should scroll down to the toggle that reads “get tips, tricks, and suggestions as you use Windows” and ensure it is switched off.

Ensure background processes are kept to a minimum

Microsoft’s OneDrive software is the firm’s cloud storage service that ensures files are accessible across multiple devices.

While the feature seems incredibly handy, the process of constantly backing up files can slow down performance for users.

Turning off OneDrive’s syncing is as easy as right clicking its icon in the Windows 10 taskbar and pressing the “pause syncing” option.

The Microsoft software will then give users the option of stopping the process for either two, eight or 24 hours.

Turning off the feature in times optimum performance is needed can be incredibly helpful.
